PFERD » Files & Rasps » Machinist Files » Key files

Similar to Warding Files, Key Files are very thin in thickness. Their big advantage is that they are manufactured in all popular machinists file shapes. Double cut. Designed specially for use in locks and keys, they are also well-suited for use by electricians, mechanics and anyone engaged in precision work.

Hand

Hand shape Key Files have the same cross-sectional dimensions as the Flat Key File but is blunt in shape (no taper). Double cut, it has one safe (uncut) edge which permits filing one surface without damaging an adjoining one.

Flat

Flat shape Key Files are tapered in width at the point and slightly tapered in thickness at the point. Double cut on both sides and are single cut on the edges.

Three Square

Three Square shape Key Files are triangular in cross-section and have fairly sharp corners that are slightly set and cut. The shape lends itself toward filing internal angles more acute than the right angle, for clearing out square corners and filing taps and cutters.

Square

Half Round

Half Round shape Key Files are used for filing out concave surfaces and crevices, and for rounding out holes.

Round

Round shape Key Files are designed for enlarging circular holes or rounded grooves that are too small for a half round key file. They taper toward the point, making it adaptable for use on various size holes.

Hand, Extra Thin

Double cut, it has one safe (uncut) edge which permits filing one surface without damaging an adjoining one. This extra thin special is designed to gets into the narrowest slots.
